Part 2 of our  Healthcare Ethics: Community, Value, & Leadership Series

Conflicts of interest may arise in the delivery of patient care and management of healthcare organizations. Conflicts generally occur when individuals seek to promote self-interest over the obligations of the organization, patient or profession. These situations are detrimental to the organization’s values, culture and administrative/clinical practices.

Conflicts of interest can also raise legal and ethical concerns. Whether the conflict of interest is grounded in financial or personal self-interest, it can impair the judgment of the individual’s fiduciary relationship to stakeholders. Leaders of healthcare organizations should have ethically grounded and transparent approaches in place for recognizing, managing, and preventing conflicts of interest. This panel presentation will illustrate practical methods for recognizing, addressing and preventing conflicts of interest.
